About Cheyenne Jolene Yates, Ecologist (M.S.), Forager, and Clinical Herbalist
Hello and welcome! I am honored and delighted to serve you as you embark on your journey to explore the wonders of nature, delve into the art of herbalism, and embrace the practices of foraging for nourishment and natural remedies. My passion and purpose revolve around gently guiding individuals toward reconnecting with the timeless wisdom of the earth and creating meaningful change in their lives and communities.
As a guide and teacher, I aim to foster deeper connections with ourselves, the spirits of the earth, our ancestors, and each other. My ultimate goal is to create a space for personal, community, and ecological healing. Central to my teachings is the understanding that we possess an inherent ability to heal and that our most profound healing emerges through connecting with our plant, animal, and elemental kin.
My approach integrates science, spirituality, and intuition to equip you with the knowledge and tools to connect with the natural world. While I have spent a decade studying plants, animals, and ecology through formal academic institutions, I am humbled every day by the lessons taught to me by the natural world. My most profound insights have emerged from direct experience with plants and years of immersion in helping people heal with herbs.
I am dedicated to sharing the importance of holding reverence for the earth and all its beings. By learning to connect with the world around us, we can facilitate healing for both ourselves and our planet.
Thank you for joining me at Among Oaks & Owls.

Teachings
The core of everything I do focuses on fostering relationships between people, plants, and animals. Our connection to plant and animal consciousness is vital for personal and ecological healing.
Mother Earth teaches us that plants, animals, and humans are vitally connected through our living relationships. We are not separate from nature; rather, we are an integral and interdependent part of it. Our daily actions affect the health of ourselves, the plants, animals, water, air, and land. We cannot stay in the status quo of the extractive and abusive patriarchal, colonial, or capitalist structures that be.
Thus, our work of unlearning and relearning must begin. We must each individually and collectively step into reciprocal relationships with the earth and its beings. This process often starts with our personal healing journeys of learning how to process our emotions, traumas, and generational wounding. Luckily, the earth spirits are here to aid us in returning to ourselves, our power, and our sacred responsibility to each other.
Themes in my work are centered around the spiritual death and rebirth process; to let go of what is no longer serving us so we can show up to best serve ourselves, our communities, and the earth. With the support of plants and animals, you can process your emotions and blocks while feeling held through your life transitions and new ways of being.
Among Oaks & Owls, offerings are created to connect you back to our animal, plant, and elemental kin. Through my offerings, I intend to teach you how to revere the earth and all of its beings. Through tending your relationships with nature, you will learn that you are inherently worthy of health and healing and always have plant and animal allies here to support you. Let’s Reclaim, Repair, and Reconnect with all that is.
Values
-
The heart of Among Oaks and Owls begins with community. Community includes not only humans but also our animal, plant, and elemental kin. I focus on fostering reciprocal relationships with our fellow humans and more than human kin. Deep healing begins when we recognize how interconnected we are to the natural world. We can all heal when we learn to maintain healthy relationships with our communities and the earth.
-
Integration of science and spirituality is essential to healing ourselves and the world. My products and services blend science, intuition, and ancestral knowledge. You can trust that the scientific information shared comes from someone who has conducted scientific research and understands the teachings and shortcomings of modern science. I also see the importance of the incorporation of spirit and ancestral knowledge. Science has much to teach us but can only explain some of the human experience, and this is where spirituality can step in.
-
Consent and communication are paramount in every interaction. It is crucial to me to acknowledge and uphold the autonomy and consent of all individuals, whether they are people, plants, or animals. I am dedicated to fostering transparent and open communication to ensure that everyone's needs are taken into account. My commitment to ethical kink and trauma-informed care informs and guides my approach to every situation. While I will encourage you to strive to expand beyond your comfort zone, I deeply respect your right to assert and maintain your boundaries at all times.
-
Holistic health is about caring for a whole person. I work to provide for your unique physical, mental, and spiritual needs. My offerings are part of your path to a healthier and more fulfilled life. You know your body best; my work is here to assist you on that journey. I also understand the importance of learning from and encouraging you to incorporate doctors, chiropractics, and energy healers within your wellness regime.
-
I am committed to making this world a more equitable place. I recognize and educate myself on the intergenerational trauma that has resulted from colonization. The land I currently live on was once the home of the Muscogee/Creek tribe. Reparations are necessary, and I vow to continue to educate myself and boost BIPOC's voices. I offer a sliding scale for marginalized individuals. Please reach out to me via email to discuss pricing options.

We will learn how we are deeply intertwined with natural communities by diligently tending to and nurturing the land. I emphasize the significance of gaining knowledge through mutual relationships, serving as a reminder that by safeguarding the earth, we also nurture ourselves. To reap the abundant benefits the earth offers, it is imperative that we wholeheartedly engage in land stewardship.
